Skull Cookies

It was the end of the week and I just had two orders left to finish, these skull cookies and yesterday's posted Harley-Davidson cookies.  I looked around and laughed nervously - how did this happen?  My kitchen is usually filled with cheerfully happy cookies, flowers and elephants and snowmen!  These two cookie orders at the same time?  I kept looking from one design to the other and I kept imagining motorcycle gangs!  I am happy to report that the cookies went to individual and friendly homes.

Finding common ground when it comes to movies and television shows has never been easy in our family.  We all have diversely different tastes.  Sure, when the girls were really little my husband and I happily cuddled up and watched Franklin or Sesame Street with them.  But as they got older, the shows got sappier and way too girly.  However, a couple of years ago we found common ground in Scooby Doo and for a number of months we spent Friday nights together on the couch watching Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Velma and Daphne (aka "those meddling kids") solving mysteries.  For my husband it was a trip back to his childhood, for the girls it was about the silliness and for me it was just nice to spend time together.  Recently I got a phone call from a gentleman in Florida.  He was looking to send a gift to his friend and his friend's nephew in Toronto.  Originally the plan was for Maple Leaf hockey jerseys, but for a number of reasons plans changed and instead we decided on a Scooby Doo set.  I was more than thrilled to comply and love how they turned out!!  What is your favourite childhood cartoon?

Olympic Cookie Countdown

With just three days until the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, today's cookie celebrates the skeleton.  It is a fast winter sliding sport in which an individual rides a small sled down a frozen track while lying face down.  Athletes can experience forces up to 5g!  Equipment includes helmets with a chin guard, a skin-tight racing speedsuit, spiked shoes, goggles and the sled.  At the Olympics, the events will be held at the Sliding Center Sanki near Krasnaya Polyana, Russia.  The events will be held from February 13-15.

Groundhog Day Cookie - Good News and Bad News

Oh, the news is bad.  This is the worst winter we have experienced in a very long while; a lot of snow, ice, frostquakes and freezing cold temperatures.  Days and days of not leaving the house, children not being allowed outside for recess at school, dogs being kept awake in fear of the loud booms in the night (the frostquakes) and the shovelling just never ends!

And this morning, Wiarton Willie predicted six more weeks of winter!

But the news is also good.  Today we heard the statistic that Wiarton Willie has been right only 37% of the time.  With that lousy track record, we can hope that he is wrong with his horrible prediction.

Christmas Cookies 2013

I admit, I tend to be behind most people when it comes to the Christmas season.  I have a November birthday and I will not even think about the holidays until December!  So here are the first of my Christmas offerings - I created these cookies for our Christmas in September event at the Farmers' Market this summer, but have recreated them twice since then for people celebrating the holidays early this year.

A consumable gift is actually my favourite to give or receive!  My delicious cookies will please anyone on your list, from your grandmother in a nursing home to your child's teacher.

There are a number of ways to order - a dozen (mixture of all three designs) for $38.  Individually, you can order the candles for $3 each, gingerbread men for $3.50 each and the Christmas trees for $4 each - for this, the minimum order is 8.  Pickup can be arranged at your convenience during the month.

I am excitedly working on one more Christmas offering, so look for that to be posted on Monday!  I will be closed from December 22 until January 3rd, so place any orders you need for the holidays as quickly as possible.

Now that the winter weather seems to be around the corner (it is -6º Celsius this morning!) my mind drifts to a nearby pond that is home to many winter hockey games.  I love to watch them brave the elements and hope they always remember the gear to keep them warm - mittens, toques and jerseys!

These cookies were a donation to the Deafblind Ontario Services fundraiser called "Indulge Your Senses".  A number of my friends attended and told me it was a fabulous evening.  I will be there next year for sure!

After her son received one of my customized sports jersey cookies at a birthday party he attended, Monika knew she wanted customized cookies for her son's birthday party as well, but was struggling with a theme.  She told me a magician was coming to the party and right away I suggested top hats with rabbits, which was a perfect choice!

Ann's grandson lives in England and is a huge Arsenal Football fan.  With his 9th birthday fast approaching, the timing of his dad's visit to Canada was perfect.  His dad went home this week with a box of these cookies ready for the birthday celebration!

Baptism Dress Cookie

Planning her daughter's baptism led Lisa to me.  She wanted a baptism gown cookie for each of her guests and after some trial and error, I designed a custom cutter to fulfill this request.  Lisa is a wonderfully kind lady and sent me a note after delivery to tell me how happy she was with the cookies.
