Cottage Themed Cookies

To celebrate her parents' anniversary, Denise asked me to come up with a set of cookies in a northern Ontario theme, something to remind them of the cottage they had for years up in Muskoka.  She had fallen in love with loon cookies I had made earlier in the summer, so we used those as a jumping off point.  Personally I am crazy about the Muskoka chair cookies!

Baby Shower Cookies in Yellow and Grey

With a baby on the way and a baby shower arranged to celebrate, grandmother-to-be Sherry contacted me to create cookies suitable for take-home gifts for the baby shower's guests.  Not knowing if the baby is a boy or girl, Sherry and her daughter picked a generic, yet beautiful colour theme of yellow, white and grey.  I love how these cookies came together and am hoping for news soon of the arrival of a healthy baby boy or girl!

Thomas the Tank Engine Set of Cookies

Little Chloe is a lover of trains and her mom wanted to order her a set of Thomas the Tank Engine cookies.  Thomas the Tank was never popular in my home, so other than the main train, Thomas, I was at a loss as to who to make.  Searching online didn't really help me because there are an unbelievable number of different characters in the books and shows.

One of my daughters suggested I ask a neighbour who is mom to a little boy.  We decided (partly based on colour and train disposition) that the three best trains would be Thomas, Percy and James.  The track cookies were inspired by a set created by Tickled Pink Cookie Boutique.

I got word that Chloe really liked the cookies, and here is a picture of her nibbling away at the edges.  Maybe she ate another cookie and saved Thomas - they are all equally delicious!

Animal Cookies for a Baptism

Naomi wanted to make her daughter's baptism extra special and that included custom decorated cookies for all of her guests.  Breaking away from the traditional baptism crosses, she opted for her little girl's favourite animals instead - panda bears, giraffes, monkeys and bunnies.

Real Estate Thank You Cookies

Another successful house selling process leads to another thank you cookie set.  Real estate agent Jenn often orders these up for her customers and lets me take creative control.  She just requested this set included a dog, because the daughter of the family really, really wants one!!  Here is hoping the family loves their new home, that the packing boxes are soon emptied and they settle in to their new "Home Sweet Home"!  Door and boxes inspired by a cookie set created by Campervan Cookies.

Z28 Camaro Just Married Cookies

I attended my brother-in-law's wedding this past weekend in London, Ontario.  Kevin married his long-time love, Amy, in a lovely backyard ceremony.  I was thrilled when they asked me if I would bake something for their wedding day.

While I no longer make cakes or cupcakes for customers (cookies keep me plenty busy), I certainly was willing to do it for this beautiful couple.  I created a carrot cake cupcake tower - each cupcake topped with a swirl of cream cheese frosting, yum!

In addition, I made custom cookies.  Kevin has always been a huge car enthusiast and his second love is definitely his 1980 Z28 Camaro.  So some "just married" car type cookies seemed like the right way to go on this occasion.  Styled after his beloved car, they were a huge hit!

Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness!  I love you both!

Diamond Ring and Dress Bridal Shower Cookies

For her sister's bridal shower, Kristy contacted me for cookies.  She knew right from the beginning she wanted diamond rings and dresses.  I think they turned out very cute!  Ring cookies inspired by a design by Clough'D 9 Cookies and Sweets.

Flour or Flower?

On Saturday my neighbour dropped by the market where we were celebrating Caribbean Day. She took a look at my tray of tropical flower cookies and asked - "What kind of flower?" My answer - "All-purpose." I can still hear her laughing! (For the record, Hibiscus is the flower!)

Thomas the Tank Engine Cookies

Trisha contacted me to create Thomas the Tank Engine Cookies.  I have a train cookie cutter, but it was a side view and while my children never had an interest in Thomas, I knew the face is what made him Thomas.  So I created a cutter suitable for a front-on cookie.  Character cookies are challenging but I was happy with the final result.

Trisha was too and when she picked up the cookies, she let me know the reason she ordered them.  As the owner of Bundles of Joy Themed Gift Baskets, she had been commissioned to create Thomas the Tank Engine baskets and my cookies were destined for the middle of each basket.  I was thrilled!  Trisha sent me the pictures of her finished baskets and based on how beautiful they look, I am thinking the recipients were equally thrilled.  Consider Trisha's services the next time you need something equally cute.

40th Birthday Cookie Set

Celebrating a birthday is made more special with cookies!  Happy 40th birthday, Jennifer!

A few years ago I saw some darling birthday cookies created by another cookie artist, the Flour Box Bakery.  Their cookies had cake silhouettes on them and I thought that one day I would like the opportunity to make something similar.  So when Karen asked me to create these cookies for her co-worker and left the design up to me, I ran with the cake silhouette idea.  I scoured the internet for inspiration, found appropriate clipart and used it to create these cookies.  When I was all done, I went back to the inspirational cookies from FBB and guess what, theirs have the exact same silhouettes!  Too funny!

1st Anniversary Cookies

Celebrating one year of wedded bliss plus the journey to get there is the story this set of cookies tells.  From meeting at the bar "Avenue" to their first date at a baseball game, the references to Australia where they lived, the Sydney Opera House which was the site of his proposal to her, the lighthouse which represents their wedding,  the pyramids because they went to Egypt for their honeymoon, the airplane to represent their love of travel, their cat Mylo and their first house and a hint to the future as well.  Wishing this lovely couple continued love and happiness!

Elegant Bridal Shower Cookies

With her third son getting married, Patti asked me to create bridal shower cookies for her soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Asha.  I was given a copy of the elegant invitation and asked to come up with something beautiful.

I have heard from many that the shower was lovely, and I am sure it set the tone for the actual wedding which will take place in the fall.  Congratulations Asha and Joel - wishing you a lifetime of happiness!

Ball Hockey and Fox Racing Logo Cookies

My friend's son spent the early part of the summer participating in ball hockey tournaments all over Ontario.  I was asked to make a set of cookies for his team each tournament (see original post here), and they certainly seemed to bring them luck!  After seeing pictures and noticing their jerseys, I made set with their jersey logo as well as ball hockey sticks and balls.  I understand the boys had a great time each weekend and I hope the cookies helped win some games!

Lighthouses, Sailboats and Sand Dollar Cookies

For my Farmers' Market table each week I come up with a theme.  Three or four cookies that link together somehow makes for a lovely table.  This week, I was inspired by the heat of summer.  Where would I like to be to get away from the humid Ontario air (and the heat made by my oven!)?  Something nautical came to mind and that's how I ended up with lighthouses, sailboats and sand dollars.  And they were a hit!  Happy summer!

Rescue Bot Cookies

Trisha contacted me to create Rescue Bot cookies for her son's birthday.  Rescue Bots are a spin-off of Transformers that are popular in the U.S., but that are not yet main-stream in Canada.  She had a very hard time getting her hand on any of the decorations for his party and resorted to making her own (let's face it; homemade = it was probably the best party ever!)  My custom designs were a perfect fit and Trisha was just thrilled with them!

Doctor Who Cookies

When I was a little girl, the television show Doctor Who was really, really creepy to me!  To this day, science fiction anything is not my cup of tea, and while I was aware that the show was being made and shown on television again, I was able to avoid it at all costs... until Heather emailed me from Vancouver.

Doctor Who is her family's thing.  Her love of the show was evident in her emails and she wanted me to create cookies in this theme, one set for her and her husband, a second set the wanted to send from Vancouver to Calgary as part of a birthday care package for her son.  She sent me pictures to inspire me, including a really creepy video of the Weeping Angels.  <Shivers>

I learned more about Doctor Who than I ever dreamed I would in this lifetime, but even I liked how the cookies turned out.  I never did figure out what the tardis is all about (and don't ever want to find out!)

Cat in the Hat Cookies

I've known Tracy for years, having met when our oldest children were in kindergarten.  Tracy loved kids so much that she worked first as an educational assistant and then she went back to school to become a teacher!  She just finished her first full year as a teacher of a grade 6/7 split class and the passion she has for these kids is incredible.  Months ago she contacted me to arrange end of year cookies for her class.  What was the inspiration for these cookies and the message to her students?  Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"  Each cookie bag was closed with a ribbon and a "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" tag.  I hope your children will one day have a teacher with as much spirit and passion for their profession, and that your children find their life's dream profession too!

Thank You Apple Cookies for Teachers

Another school year has almost come to a close.  Many children are looking forward to a relaxing summer break and have one last day to honour their teachers.  Based on the number of "Thank You" apples and plaques sold in the past week, many Bradford teachers will be thanked with Sweet Handmade cookies this year.  Happy summer!

Sweet Pea Baby Shower Cookies

Little Brezlynn was finally meeting her family in Canada, and her Grandmother Mary-Lynn contacted me to create cookies for the special day.  With a sweet pea/purple and green theme in mind, this is the design we settled on - baby asleep in the pea pod, her name written as a vine across the top with purple flowers hanging down.  Each of the 50 cookies was individually wrapped and tied with a purple ribbon.  I heard that it was a fantastic day!

Simcoe Dance Academy Trophy and Logo Cookies

My girls have been dancing at Simcoe Dance Academy for many years and my reward for driving them to and from lessons each week is the year end recital.  What a spectacular show this incredible dance school puts on each year.  In our small town it is so easy to know so many of the dancers and watching them is just a jaw-dropping experience.

Sandra wanted to say thank you to the owner of the studio as well as the teachers and commissioned me to create cookies for this occasion.  They were a hit!

Bridal Shower Cookies - Diamonds and Pearls

Alison, a recent bride and Sweet Handmade bridal shower cookie recipient, was hosting a bridal shower for one of her best friends, Jill.  She contacted me to create cookies for Jill's special event, knowing how well they were received at her shower.

The theme for her friend's shower was "Diamonds and Pearls" and so these are the cookies I came up with (with a little inspiration from cookie artist Clough'd).  Wishing Jill and her groom a wonderful wedded life!

Thank You Cookies for Obstetrician

The mother of two lovely children, Mya and 6 week old Gavin, Nicole wanted to bring a special thank you cookie set to her Obstetrician at her final appointment.  Her relationship with her doctor was filled with humour, so the cookie set could be too, which explains the "blood splatter" cookies!

Running Shoe Cookies

A group of marathon runners were gathering for some non-running fun and wanted a hit of well earned sugar.  Served to them in the shape of running shoes, some of the inspiration for these delicious designs came from my husband's ever growing running shoe collection.

Ball Hockey Tournament Cookies

How can you easily spot a non-Canadian?  They use the term "ice hockey".  In Canada, hockey is played on the ice, we don't need to make that distinction!  Now, if hockey is played on the pavement in the off-season with a ball instead of a puck, you had better describe it as "ball hockey".  And that is what some local hockey players were doing this past weekend now that their regular hockey season is over.  They are great players, but what secret did they have in their back pockets to help them win the tournament played in London, Ontario?  Some Sweet Handmade ball hockey cookies, of course!

Farmers' Market Season

I am in my final prep for the Bradford Farmers' Market which starts tomorrow.  I am one of the organizers, so if something goes wrong, you know who to blame - but I won't take responsibility for the cool weather or the wind!  I hope to see many familiar faces and even more new ones.

Scale and Tool Cookies

A group of mechanics held a weight loss challenge and the impending winner contacted me for cookies to celebrate.  (I know, nothing like celebrating weight loss with weight-gaining cookies!)  I have to tell you, I think scales in cookie form are my favourite kind of scales!
