60th Birthday in Silver and Gold

Ashleigh was throwing her mother a 60th birthday bash, and always a wonderful supporter of local business (we tend to throw business back and forth at each other!), she contacted me to create cookies.  She asked for a silver and gold colour scheme.  I love how they turned out and hope you can see the shimmer of the silver and gold lustre dust.  Happy birthday Lizzie!

Bradford Bulldog Hockey Jersey Cookies

Well, spring has finally sprung and for the most part, the hockey season is over in these parts (not including the NHL, which will keep going for a while yet).  These are some of the cookies I created for a Bradford Bulldogs hockey party last month.

So while tournaments, tryouts, three-on-three and shooting a ball in the driveway will keep these boys' hockey dreams alive, they will be counting the days until their regular hockey season starts again!

Communion Cross Cookies

Frank-Anthony had been looking forward to his Communion for a long time.  Actually, he told me he was looking forward to the party!  At this special party, each one of his 100+ guests was given one of these beautiful crosses, wrapped in a cellophane bag and closed with a chocolate brown ribbon.  A thoughtful and delicious gift that I am sure everyone enjoyed.  Congratulations Frank-Anthony!

Sock Monkey Cookies and Cookie Cutter Improvisation

For these sock monkey cookies I had to think outside the box.  I didn't have a sock monkey cutter, so I improvised!

Using three cutters, including a monkey head cutter, a medium circle cutter (the white cutter is a smooth circle on one side, scalloped on the other) and a small circle cutter, I made the sock monkey shape.

Placing the three different pieces tight together is all it takes for them to bake together.

A little bit of icing transforms them into these cute sock monkeys!!  (I was inspired by Sweet Sugar Belle to use this icing swirl technique.)

Real Estate Sign Cookies

I met Marie through one of those "it's a small world" kind of things.  I had connected with her in a local facebook group but had never met her in person.  We had both volunteered to run the Salvation Army kettle at the LCBO (liquor store) before Christmas, one week apart.  On my volunteer shift, one of my Triathlon Club teammates was in the store making a purchase and we said hello to one another.  He mentioned his wife had run the kettle the week before ... "Is your wife Marie?" I asked.  Small world!

Marie is a local real estate agent and is know for her hugs, and her incredible ability to sell!  This tray of cookies could actually be a photograph of a local neighbourhood.  Her signs everywhere - sold!

 

Mickey Mouse Birthday Cookies

Justin, his two older brothers and his mother are regular Farmers' Market customers and during the summer months I see them weekly.  The boys love my cookies and for Justin's third birthday his mom ordered Mickey Mouse themed cookies instead of a cake.

Justin's dad came up with the fabulous idea of putting candles on the cookies, which was a huge hit!

Stonebridge Guitar Cookie Set

It's a mom's prerogative to do something nice for her children, so after he tasted and raved about Sweet Handmade cookies, she decided to order him some,... just because.  After discussing many theme ideas, we settled on a musical one.  He has a special love affair with his custom made Stonebridge guitar and I hope I did it justice with this set.

I love how all the cookies turned out, but I especially love the plaque cookie in the front left - "Just because... you love cookies"  Cute!

Curling Cookies

Heather's family loves curling and her boys are pretty sensational.  She wanted to celebrate her sons' team success with cookies, so I created these cookies for them.  One of the things that I really love about this profession is the amount of learning it requires.  In order to do these cookies justice, I found out about all about the sport of curling, despite the fact that I have never played it.  The circular target, represented here in cookie form, is called the house and the goal of the sport is to slide the polished granite stones, called the "rocks", towards the house.  Curling is game of strategy, aided by the skill of the curler sliding the stone in a curve and the sweepers using their brooms to alter the state of the ice in front of the stone.  This strategy and skill has earned curling the nickname "Chess on Ice".  

Well, these cookies certainly brought them some luck, because after winning the Regional Gore Mutual Schoolboy curling challenge, they went on to place 2nd in the provincials in Haliburton!  Read the full story here!

Sweet Sixteen Birthday Cookies

After speaking with Sam's mom, who asked me to make cookies for Sam's sweet sixteen birthday, it was decided I would be the best person to secretly find out theme ideas for her "Sweet Sixteen Birthday Cookie" tray.  Yes, a top secret stealth operation would be required to get the details without giving away why I was trying to find out about her party.  Since I drive her and my oldest daughter to school every morning, I started out by casually asking about her upcoming birthday party.  She stopped me in my tracks to say - "I know you are making me cookies."  It looks like I don't have a future in private investigation after all, it's back to the kitchen with me!

Sam had a great time with her friends and these delicious cookies in her theme of hot pink, silver and black.  Happy, happy birthday Sam!
